Arquivo.pt attended the 30th edition of the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries (TPDL), held at the University of Algarve from 22 to 25 September.
TPDL is an annual event, launched in 1997, dedicated to digital platforms for knowledge and digital libraries. In 2026, the University of Algarve hosted the event.
TPDL’s dual theoretical and practical approach facilitates dialogue between those who research and those who apply recent technologies in services. The Arquivo.pt team is among those who apply these technologies, which is why it is so important to attend events such as TPDL.
Meeting with the Common Crawl team
Common Crawl is one of the world’s largest web archives. It was created in 2007 by Gil Elbaz with the aim of collecting information from the web and making it available for research. Its focus is the textual content of web pages. It currently provides around 10 petabytes of information.
Arquivo.pt and Common Crawl share a commitment to making data accessible for scientific research. Many issues related to data availability and the impact of AI are also common to both initiatives.
During the event, the two teams met and exchanged ideas on emerging challenges.
