Arquivo.pt has contributed to the international collection of web pages on the Summer Olympics Games taking place in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024 and will do the same for the Summer Paralympics taking place from 28 August to 8 September.
The initiative to create the “2024 Summer Olympics/Paralympics IIPC CDG” collection is the responsibility of the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC), the world’s leading organisation in the field of Internet preservation, through its Content Development Working Group.
The IIPC’s collaborative collections aim to promote the creation of thematic collections and collections based on international events. The web pages are recorded and then made available on the Archive-it service.
The pages of this collection will also be available on Arquivo.pt for those who want to study sport and Olympism.
Any person or organisation can participate in this collection via a public form.
Web pages about the Portuguese at the 2024 Summer Olympics
The criterion for selecting pages that represent Portugal’s presence at the Summer Olympics 2024 is based on news published about the athletes in various media.
A total of 73 athletes represented Portugal in 15 sports.
For each athlete, pages were selected relating to their expectations before the games, their competition and their comments during and after the competition.
Some athletes have more news selected than others, and the same goes for the websites from which the news comes. The selection was not limited to the first results presented by the search engine. We looked for a variety of channels and news from regional and local sites, some from the region or city where the athletes came from.
The contribution of Arquivo.pt, as you can see in the table below, already has more than 370 web pages.

Web pages about the Portuguese at the 2024 Summer Paralympics
The 2024 Summer Paralympics will take place from 28 August to 8 September and will feature 27 Portuguese athletes in 10 sports.
Arquivo.pt is selecting pages for the collection promoted by the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC).
The aim is to identify news published on the web about all the Portuguese athletes taking part in the 2024 Summer Paralympics. Other related pages, such as blogs, associations, clubs, studies, events, related to paralympism are welcome in this collection.
The web pages will be recorded and made available on Archive-it and also on Arquivo.pt.
We call on the community to participate in enriching this collection.
