Methodology for identifying organizations and websites
The publication of thematic lists is part of Arquivo.pt’s digital curation activities.
- Select a topic
- Find an available list of organization or entity names
- Identify the official website
- Create a link to the history on Arquivo.pt
- Preserve useful information, such as location
- Identify new information and social media accounts, where available
There are recurring fields—such as temporal coverage, spatial coverage, and description—to accommodate a variety of information.
Curation of the identified websites
Creating a list of websites is useful for better preserving this collection of websites. This leads to the following steps:
- A dedicated collection of the listed websites is carried out
- The availability of historical versions of each website is verified
- Specific archiving strategies are applied when necessary
It is not always possible to archive certain content and interactions published on websites. The list of websites at least helps identify these cases and flag them. For better preservation, it is necessary to use complementary approaches.
The most well-known social media platforms have been included in the lists. However, successfully preserving them in web archives is rare, so other techniques are needed. And that is the challenge.
Use of the Lists for Thematic Studies
The thematic lists of websites are intended to promote the historical collection of the Brazilian Web and to inspire creative and innovative studies or applications that are useful to citizens and provide value to the organizations themselves.
